What’s Missing?

Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife.
Proverbs 17:1

Historians tell us that we live in one of the most affluent times in all of history. Living in such abundance, many people still aren’t satisfied. We have enough food, clothes, homes, and cars, but not enough peace, joy, security, and love. Ironically, though, we still seem to look for fulfillment in the pursuit of more money, status-worthy possessions, and more prestigious titles.

For most people, this only produces more stress, anxiety, and burdens of responsibility. Which in turn reinforces what’s missing—true satisfaction, the peace that comes from serving something larger than yourself, and the grace of the Lord.

Perhaps what you long for cannot be found in another gadget, app, designer label, or purchase. Maybe you need fewer possessions and more peace. Today, search your heart for what’s missing in your life.

Pray: “Lord, I have so many blessings in life, yet I still long for something more. I know that a deeper, closer relationship with you is the only thing that satisfies my soul.”
