Unite in His name

If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love . . . make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.
Philippians 2:1–2

So often tragedy is what unifies us these days. With violence in our schools and public places, with natural disasters wreaking havoc, and with terrible crimes claiming lives, we come together to mourn, grieve, and regroup. Sometimes we band together to take action and prevent the calamity from happening again. Other times we simply unite in order to serve, restore, and rebuild.

While unity born of tragedy helps us survive and recover, we don’t have to wait until there’s a shared loss to come together as community. We can show the love of Christ to one another without any reason other than exercising our joyful, obedient heart.

When we are one in spirit and unified in shared beliefs, we become stronger than any one individual. God is among us and promises to bless us with his presence. We can meet one another’s needs and experience the transformation that comes from both giving and receiving.
