We often hear stories about friendships between species. A dog that is friendly to a cat. Or even a dog that has become friends with a cow. They usually tell the story of one of the animals that went out of their way to comfort another, though there may be very little in common between the two animals. This is one such story.
It is the story of a goose who, during some frigidly low temperatures, kept a puppy from the cold.
The original story of this unlikely couple went something like this: a polar vortex hit North America in January 2019 and a person walking by spotted a goose or duck cradling a cold puppy.
“The man finds a goose that was shaking with cold stuck to a pole in Montana,” a translated archived Facebook post by Suzanne PadaPetra from January 30, 2019 shows. “The goose was sheltering with her wings a puppy that was about to freeze. We have so much to learn as a species.”
The motherly instincts of this goose set in instantly when she saw the puppy. Not wanting to hurt the little child, she covered the baby with her body to protect it from the bitter cold. She hoped she would keep the puppy alive with her efforts.
What a really amazing thing to see. The source of these images and the details surrounding the actual story is not entirely clear. Nonetheless, they’re still profound and an incredible sight!
