She Took In Children No Matter Age Or Medical Condition.
Last week, a woman from Johnson County Iowa was honored for her decades of service to foster children.
Linda Faye Herring was honored Thursday by Johnson County for her dedication as a foster parent to more than 600 children in approximately 50 years.
Herring started fostering in the 1970s, and the Department of Human Services stated it could call her at any time and she would meet anywhere to pick up a child.
“Linda mostly fostered young children and children with special medical needs and kept bins of clothes in her garage, stacked to the ceiling, labeled by size and gender,” the county said in its statement. “No one had to worry about a child going without clothes at Linda’s, even if they arrived with nothing but what they were wearing.”
Now, Herring’s five biological children and three of her grandchildren have become foster parents.
“If no one else can love them or take care of them, I will,” was Herring’s philosophy.
