[Jesus said,] “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.”
Sometimes we forget how much control we have over the state of our hearts. Jesus told us not to let our hearts be troubled. He didn’t say not to feel what you feel or to ignore your problems. He said to trust him. It’s not as though we can flip a switch and make our hearts carefree and unburdened, but we can decide not to dwell on our problems and worries. We can decide to trust him and take the next step, whatever that may be.
When we dwell on our worries, we accomplish nothing other than preventing our hearts from experiencing God’s peace. If we choose to trust him, our feelings will follow the path of our thoughts. We can’t flip a switch and make our troubles go away or change our emotions. But we can control how we react and the choices we make in response to our circumstances.
Today, when you’re tempted to worry, make a choice to trust God with whatever is causing your concern.
