God is our protector, and he also blesses us with special people here on earth that help us to stay safe. Law enforcement officers do their best to protect the community and uphold justice for everyone. Police officers are amazing, especially when they go out of their way (and sometimes even risk their lives) to serve and protect those around them.
One Alabama police officer went above and beyond the call of duty when he saw someone in need. It all happened when he spotted teen in a store who was wearing shoes covered in duct tape. Cpl. Sebastian Goldman was at a local grocery store picking up food for jail inmates the moment he noticed that the employee helping him check out, who was just a teenager, had duct tape wrapped around his shoes to keep them from falling apart.
“I looked at him and said: ‘What’s up with duct tape? Is that something all the kids are doing? A fashion statement?'” Goldman said, remembering his interaction with the cashier that day. The cashier, a 19-year-old, then admitted to Goldman he had ripped his shoes at work recently and was planning on buying new ones after he got his much-needed paycheck. Goldman then proceeded to ask the employee in need what his shoe size was before exiting the store.
Goldman then went on his day and delivered the food to the inmates. After that, he made a quick stop at the Shoe Dept. in Hueytown. It was there that he bought the young man he met earlier that day a new pair of shoes.Goldman then returned to the store and delivered the shoes to the teen.
“I said: ‘Man, here you go. I didn’t know payday was Friday or two weeks from now,'” Goldman said. “He said, ‘What do I owe you?’ and I told him to just pay it forward.”
A local resident, Angela Roach Scory, saw the whole thing happen and took to Facebook to share the generous act of kindness she witnessed with others. She hoped to shine a light on Goldman’s gesture and inspire others. “Special shout out to Hueytown Police Officer Goldman. Today he saw a young man with duct tape on his shoes at Food Giant and bought him a new pair of shoes! Everyone at Food Giant this morning was in tears when he brought them to the young man!!!! Way to go, Office Goldman,” she wrote along with a picture of the teen’s shoes.
“Like so many officers, one of the things that attracted Corporal Goldman to police work was the chance to help people. I am pleased and proud of what he did, but not surprised,” Hueytown Police Chief Chuck Hagler said when asked about the act of kindness. “Good people act when they see a person in need and most police officers that I know are fundamentally good people.”
