“Follow” Him
Almost everyone online wants you to “follow” them and “like” them. Yet not all sources and sites are created equal. Online you run across all kinds of different information with various levels of credibility. Whether they’re blogs focused on celebrity gossip, news sites from established networks, or personal pages sharing subjective opinions, online sources are not all created equal.
Like last hour’s headlines, their news may feel dated and in need of being refreshed. Others may seem so over-the-top in their opinions that we’re outraged, offended, or upset. Sometimes we want to post a “like,” but resist because we don’t really know if the person or site is really who or what it appears.
God is who he says he is. His “profile” and “status page” can be found in the timeless truth of his Word, the Bible. In a world of instant updates, friendly snapchats, and tempting tweets, it’s good to remember we can like and follow him forever.
Pray: “God, I get bombarded by so many different voices and directions clamoring for my attention. Keep me focused on your timeless love and the truth of your Word.”
The God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
1 Peter 5:10
Through the Storm
Winter snow and ice storms may stretch into the spring, offering one last blast of bitter cold. A late burst of freezing temps can kill fragile blossoms and snap icy branches with bitter winds. Some trees will buckle under the weight of heavy spring snow and lean toward the ground, burdened by the unexpected, unseasonable storm. They will require assistance in their restoration, someone to brush the remaining snow away and sometimes to stake them upright.
You, too, may experience a late, unexpected storm. Things seem to be going well in your life and then suddenly, you hit a wall, overwhelmed by your responsibilities, weighted by countless burdens, unsure of how you’ll keep going.
This is when God, our perfect and loving Gardener, will sustain and restore you. His grace is more than sufficient to keep you alive and fruitful. Don’t be frightened when spring snows come.
Pray: “When things don’t go as planned, Lord, I sometimes feel caught off guard and get afraid. Thank you for strengthening me and restoring my faith with your loving care.”
Wisdom, like an inheritance, is a good thing and benefits those who see the sun.

Seek His Wisdom
As children of the King, our inheritance in Christ holds vast riches. Certainly, the priceless gift of our salvation tops the list, but the wisdom that comes from following Jesus is just as precious. When we follow him, we lose sight of the many foolish pursuits we once chased after. On a day when fools seem to be celebrated as comical and silly, it’s good to remember the value of this invaluable resource.
As we seek God’s wisdom, we benefit like a sapling growing beneath the sunshine. Wisdom has a larger perspective and trusts God’s sovereignty beyond what you can see, hear, and touch. Wisdom provides insight and understanding, compassion and caring. Wisdom emerges from the refining process when you go through the fire. The shallow, superficial things you once worried about are no longer important. You recognize what matters. That’s wisdom.
Resist the folly of the world and trust in the wisdom of the Lord.
Pray: “Father, thank you for the wisdom you give me when I ask for it and seek your ways.”
We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Toward the Light
Have you ever been swimming in the dark? Maybe in the ocean or a pool on a moonless night? It can be scary and then some. You feel disoriented, unsure of your direction, apprehensive about what you might run into. Without being able to see the shore, the horizon, the edge of the pool, or any landmarks, you lose your bearings and can’t even be sure you’re swimming in a straight direction.
Some days feel as though we’re swimming in the dark. We can’t see what’s ahead and unexpectedly bump into the agendas of others and become forced to change course without knowing where we’re going. We become frightened by the unknown in the face of disappointments and unmet expectations.
Don’t be afraid of what you can’t see. Just keep looking at Jesus. And taking one stroke after another, swimming toward the light.
Pray: “God, regardless of what’s happening today, thank you for giving me direction and purpose. Give me courage when I feel as though I’m swimming in the dark.”
