Simon Cowell is a cold, brash, talent scout known for his quick wit and harsh criticism. He once responded to an Idol hopeful, “If your lifeguard duties were as good as your singing, a lot of people would be drowning.” Ouch. What a Grinch! All that would change the day he met 16-year-old Calysta Bevier, whose story of survival would shock Simon to his core. As the judges would say, his heart would grow three sizes that day!
At the age of 15, Calysta was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Thankfully, she recovered. God redeemed her suffering by giving Calysta a powerful story to inspire others. “My hair wasn’t really my choice. I’m a survivor of stage 3 ovarian cancer. I kind of came here today to show people that no matter what you’ve gone through to keep chasing your dreams,” said Calysta.
After sharing her story, Calysta performed a stunning rendition of Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song,” which captured perfectly her story of survival. Simon Cowell, fighting back tears, said, “I love everything about you. You know what? I just had this feeling when you walked out. I can’t explain it.” I think this was a God moment. Whatever Simon felt, it was strong enough to move him towards the golden buzzer. What an amazing moment!

Dear Sister and Brother,
- 1. God IS in control even when everything in our live seems to be crashing down around us.
- 2. Life is not always fair, it rains on the just and the unjust…we should not compare our lives to others but focus on the plan God has for us.
- 3. Bad things will happen in this world, but God promised us a home in heaven if we believe in Jesus. One without sorrow, pain or death…where we never will grow old.
